Bakery packaging has two jobs: protect the product and preserve the presentation. Start with the dimensions and finish of each menu item, then test how it travels during pickup and delivery.
Separate daily stock by product family
- Bags and sheets for breads and pastries
- Containers that protect decorated or delicate items
- Cups and lids for coffee and cold drinks
- Napkins, labels and carryout bags
Test height as carefully as width
Frosting, toppings and stacked pastries fail when the package is technically wide enough but too shallow. Pack the tallest normal item before committing to a wholesale case.
Use fewer formats where possible
A container that safely handles several similar products can reduce storage pressure. Keep specialty packaging for items whose appearance or structure truly requires it.
Include front and back of house
Paper towels, gloves, liners, sanitizer and floor care belong on the same recurring order as packaging. That complete list is easier to count and less likely to create last-minute retail purchases.
